Hospital Kuala Nerang is a district hospital located in Kedah. As the hospital admits COVID-19 critical patients, it faces shortages of medical devices and supplies. Tzu Chi Kedah responded with medical equipment donation to fully support the healthcare frontliners.
Tzu Chi supports district hospital
As the pandemic wave in Kedah surges, the district hospital located near the rural area in Kedah is forced to admit COVID19 patients. Knowing that Hospital Sik faces shortages of medical devices and supplies, volunteers at Tzu Chi Yan Office immediately took action. They deliver the equipment to Hospital Sik to relieve the burden of healthcare workers.
Volunteers joy to support frontliners
Tzu Chi Perak volunteers arrive at the office early in the morning to pack the items into care packages. These care packages are later being delivered to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun and Hospital Teluk Intan. The volunteers hope that the love and care can bring relief to the exhausted medical frontliners.
First Malaysia charitable hospital launches
Several Penang corporations collaborated with Tzu Chi Malaysia to donate medical equipment to the newly established Kek Lok Si Charitable Hospital. The entrepreneurs and Tzu Chi volunteers provide voluntary support to practice their social responsibility and support the operation of the charitable healthcare system.
Volunteers support at vaccination centre
Since June 2021, Kuala Krai District Health Office at Kelantan collaborates with local hospitals to launch a mobilevaccinationprogram. They hope the vaccination rate would reach 80% of the population at Kuala Krai before the northeast monsoon occurs in November. To increase the vaccination rate, Tzu Chi volunteers at Kelantan provide 6 wheelchairs, 5 camp beds and pillows to the medical workers. Besides, Kelantan Furniture Manufacturers And Traders Association donates 2 laptops.
Bed shortage at Hospital Kulim
As the surge of COVID-19 infection in Malaysia steadily increases, the outbreak has caused the hospitals to be overwhelmed. While Hospital Kulim in Kedah has admitted more and more COVID-19 patients, the general wards are transformed into COVID-19 wards. Responding to the shortage of hospital beds, Tzu Chi volunteers rapidly deliver Jing Si multipurpose folding beds to fill the gap.
Support medical frontliners with humanities
While having old medical equipment, Hospital Baling located in the rural area of Kedah state is facing the shortage of resources to treat COVID-19 patients. The hospital requested help from Tzu Chi. With the support of the public #community, Tzu Chi volunteers acquired medical devices and donated them to Hospital Baling.

Tzu Chi volunteers at Yan office immediately prepared personal protective suits, face masks, N95 masks, and pulse oximeters to deliver to the hospital. Using the opportunity, Tzu Chi volunteers introduce the spirit of Bamboo Bank to the medical workers, so that they know the accumulation of every little contribution can form a huge kindness.
Celebrates Aidiladha with Plant-Based Meals
Beginning from July 6, Tzu Chi volunteers at Kulim, Kedah, collaborated with Malay restaurant owners to provide vegetarian meal boxes to the medical frontliners at Hospital Kulim. July 20 is Aidiladha, which is the second Islamic festival under the #pandemic in Malaysia. Despite the official holiday, the restaurant owners continue to prepare the festival set meals for the medicalfrontliners.
Equipment donation to Hosp. Kepala Batas
As the number of patients in Hospital Kepala Batas is exceeding its capacity, the hospital adds extra ICU beds to accommodate more. Responding to the expansion, Tzu Chi Malaysia delivers medical equipment, healthy food packages, and wish cards written by dialysis patients to the hospital. They hope that the support could bring relief to the medical workers.
Charity orgs support field ICU
As the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia continues to increase exponentially, the Malaysia Armed Forces (MAF) has set up a field intensive care unit (ICU) at Kepala Batas, Penang, to admit COVID-19 patients. In the beginning phase of establishment, Tzu Chi Malaysia and other charity organizations provided medical equipment to the field hospital. This time, the field ICU organized a meeting to present the Certificate of Appreciation and express their gratitude to these NGOs for their support.
Tzu Chi sends beds help expand capacity
Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim at Sungai Petani, Kedah desperately approached Tzu Chi Malaysia for the support of temporary beds. As the number of admitted patients has exceeded the capacity of the hospital, many patients are arranged to wait in the outdoor tents. Within a day, Tzu Chi volunteers rushed to the hospital and unloaded 215 Jing Si multipurpose folding beds. They hope that the timely support can fill the gap of bed shortage and ease the situation of crowded patients.
Yau Boon Kang practices vegetarian lifestyle
Yau Boon Kang is the owner of a car stereo and window tinting centre, well-known for being hot-tempered at home and at the company. Other than money and temperament, he believes in seeking ascertain insights by divination. Hospital Sultan Ismail at Johor Bahru has admitted many COVID-19 patients. Not long ago, Tzu Chi volunteers donated various medical equipment to fill the gap of equipment shortages. Tzu Chi volunteers once again brought medical equipment, including vital signs monitors, automated external defibrillators (AED), and video laryngoscopes, hoping to save more lives.
Urgently deliver ventilators to hospital
To support the medical frontliners in saving lives, Tzu Chi Johor Bahru visits Hospital Sultanah Aminah again to donate medical equipment and supplies including ventilators. They hope that the equipment and supplies can help medical workers to race against time and save more lives, ultimately minimizing the number of death cases.
Vegetarian diet exchanges health
Surgeon Dr. Lo Gin Yong believes that “diseases enter by mouth.” Being a doctor for many years, he has been doing research on the diets of his patients. The outcome shows that many diseases are highly related to eating habits. Therefore, he often encourages patients to practice a vegetarian diet for good health. Lee Tze Tsung is one of the patients who has changed into a vegetarian lifestyle after Dr. Lo’s suggestion.

Tzu Chi volunteers provide voluntary care, approaching Hospital Machang and Machang District Health Office to learn about their needs. They respond to the needs and take the opportunity to introduce the spirit of bamboo banks.
Donate equipment to save lives
On July 13, the daily confirmed cases in Malaysia reached the five-figure-mark. Even before that, the cases had been increasing, with more than 9000 cases reported for three consecutive days. The high number of COVID19 cases has strained the national healthcare system and caused a severe shortage of medical resources.

Following the contribution of 5 vital signs monitors and 5 automated external defibrillators (AED) last week, Tzu Chi Johor Bahru donated another 10 vital signs monitors to Hospital Sultanah Aminah.
They hope these equipment can bring relief to medical workers and save more lives.
Care packages to support frontliners
Since the COVID-19 outbreak in Malaysia, the number of confirmed cases has continuously increased. Tzu Chi Johor Bahru has donated medical equipment to the general hospital, hoping to save more lives. Doctor calls for donation
Tzu Chi International Medical Association (TIMA) Perak member Dr. Tan Lean Seng invited two entrepreneur friends to buy three ventilators and an ICU VitalSignsMonitor . Besides, TIMA Perak also lends the ultrasoundmachine and an #electrocardiograph, which are usually used for medical outreach, to Hospital Seri Manjung. Tzu Chi Perak hopes the support would give a helping hand to the ICU wards.
Fill the digital education gap
Due to the severe outbreak of COVID-19, the Ministry of Education Malaysia enforces learning from home nationally. Many disadvantaged students do not have computer devices to access the online classrooms while some have to stare at the small screen of mobile phones all day for learning. Tzu Chi Malaysia refurbishes the recycled computers and donates them to those in need.
Car accident brought family tragedy
A car accident brought consequent difficulties to Lee Siew Fun’s family. Lee’s husband was in a vegetative state and Lee lost mobility after an accidental fall. Knowing that Lee was unable to take care of herself, Tzu Chi volunteers helped her to clean her body without hesitation and sent her to a nursing home for recuperation. After Lee’s death, Tzu Chi volunteers continue to care for Lee’s teenage son.
Entrepreneurs provide timely support
As the pandemic in Kedah state remains severe, the general hospital of AlorSetar, HospitalSultanahBahiyah, faces the shortage of face masks. Therefore, Tzu Chi Kedah’s entrepreneurteam initiated a fundraising campaign and donated around 5,000 N95masks to the hospital. Moreover, the entrepreneurs personally deliver the supplies and send their blessings to medical staff at the generalhospital.
Medical equipment shortage
Since April 2021, the COVID19 confirmed cases in #Malaysia have surged rapidly. On May 29, the daily reported figure exceeded 9000 and reached another record high. As the pandemic continues to spread, medical systems in many states are being overwhelmed.
TIMA Perak and Tzu Chi volunteers initiated funds raising in the community and donated medical equipment to Hospital Teluk Intan.
Banker donates computers for needy students
Under the arrangement of Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), OCBC Bank Penang donated 30 computers to support Tzu Chi’s “E-Learning Easily Programme.” These computers are sent to TzuChiRecyclingCenter for refurbishment. After that, the computers will be distributed to schools and needy students for e-learning.

As the COVID19 cases in Malaysia continue to rise, TzuChiMalaysia sets up a COVID-19 screeningstation at TzuChiDialysisCentrePenang, which provides free COVID-19 screening from 8AM-11AM on Monday and Thursday.

Tzu Chi donates equipment to help frontline
